There are some weddings that feel especially meaningful from the moment you arrive. Coley and John’s Glen View Club wedding was one of those.

For Coley, Glen View Club wasn’t just a beautiful Chicago-area wedding venue. It was family history. Her parents were married there. Her sister and brother-in-law were married there, too. So when it came time for Coley and John to choose a wedding venue, returning to Glen View Club felt less like repeating a tradition and more like becoming part of it.

And if you know Coley and John, you know the two of them have the kind of personalities that make you immediately love them. They’re the kind of couple you meet and instantly want to laugh with.

Their families brought that same warmth and energy to the weekend, creating a celebration that felt incredibly welcoming, joyful, and genuinely fun from beginning to end.

A Late-Summer Chicago Wedding at Glen View Club

Coley and John were married in late summer, and they absolutely lucked out with one of those Chicago wedding days that makes you remember why summer weddings are so special.

The ceremony took place on Glen View Club’s 10th tee, surrounded by the golf course and the natural beauty of the property. From there, guests made their way to the club patio for cocktail hour before moving inside for dinner in the main dining room.

And then? It was time to head back outside.

The evening continued in a tent on the patio, where guests danced well into the night beneath a ceiling of twinkle lights by MDM Chicago.

It was a wedding day that took full advantage of everything Glen View Club has to offer: golf course views, an inviting patio, elegant interiors, and plenty of room to transform the celebration as the night progressed.

As Chicago wedding planners, we love a venue that can give a wedding multiple personalities throughout the day. Glen View Club did exactly that for Coley and John.

Shades of Blue with a Personal Touch

The design centered around a layered palette of blue, moving from soft blue to dusty blue to navy. Rather than choosing one shade and sticking with it, we embraced the entire spectrum, giving the design depth and keeping things feeling collected and personal.

The bridesmaids wore mismatched shades of blue, including a mix of blue patterns that added even more personality to the bridal party. It felt intentional without feeling overly coordinated.

Florals by A Stem Above were organic and airy, complementing the natural yet traditional setting rather than competing with it.

Throughout the floral design, tiny daisies made an especially meaningful appearance as a nod to Coley’s grandmother. Those little details are some of our favorites: beautiful enough to notice, but personal enough that the people who know the story understand why they’re there.

The rest of the reception design brought in plenty of pattern and personality. Bold linens and rentals kept the spaces from feeling too traditional, while furniture from Bowery & Bash helped create comfortable areas for guests to settle in throughout the evening.

From Elegant Dinner to a Full-On Party

Dinner took place in Glen View Club’s main dining room, giving guests a chance to settle in for a more traditional portion of the evening before everything shifted back outside for the reception tent.

The tent was transformed with a twinkle-light ceiling by MDM Entertainment, furniture and bars from Bowery & Bash, and a mix of patterned linens and tabletop details that made the space feel elevated, playful, and completely personal.

And then The Party Faithful took over.

Coley’s family has a special connection to the Grateful Dead, so naturally, the dance floor needed plenty of Grateful Dead tunes. The result was exactly what you hope for at a wedding: a packed dance floor, a band that knew how to keep the energy going, and a couple who had absolutely no intention of leaving the dance floor anytime soon.

Coley and John danced the night away surrounded by their favorite people, with the celebration getting more fun as the evening went on.

A Glen View Club Wedding Rooted in Tradition — But Completely Their Own

What we loved most about Coley and John’s wedding was how naturally they balanced tradition and personality.

They chose the same Glen View Club where Coley’s parents and sister had celebrated their own marriages. They honored her grandmother with tiny daisies. They incorporated music that has meaning to her family.

But they also made the day unmistakably theirs.

The mismatched blue bridesmaid dresses. The bold patterns. The abundant food. The playful reception design. The Grateful Dead. The packed dance floor. And, most importantly, the people — families who welcomed everyone with open arms and a couple who made it very difficult not to have fun around them.

That’s the kind of wedding we love to plan at LOLA: thoughtful and beautifully designed, absolutely, but never so precious that you can’t laugh, eat too much, dance too hard, and enjoy every second of it.

Because the best weddings aren’t just beautiful.

They’re fun to be at.
