Some weddings are beautiful. Others transport you somewhere entirely different. Michael and Brooke’s wedding at the Harris Theater Rooftop in Chicago’s Millennium Park managed to do both.
Married in early October, Michael and Brooke wanted their wedding to capture that magical moment when summer begins to give way to fall. Think warm, inviting colors, lush florals, vintage-inspired details, and an atmosphere that felt equal parts romantic and celebratory. The result was an unforgettable Chicago wedding that brought the feeling of an Italian countryside villa right into the middle of downtown.
A Classic Chicago Wedding Day
The day began at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago, where Michael and Brooke got ready before making their way to St. Alphonsus Church for a beautiful, traditional church ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds made their grand exit in a vintage car belonging to Michael’s family. Guests followed them downtown to one of Chicago’s most iconic settings: Millennium Park and the rooftop of the Harris Theater.
An Italian Villa Above Millennium Park
Guests entered Millennium Park before making their way up a floral-filled staircase to cocktail hour. The transformation was something special.
A large lattice wall with built-in sconces created a beautiful architectural backdrop, while a thoughtfully designed seating chart welcomed guests into the space. Show-stopping fountains offered another interactive element, with custom coins that guests could toss in while making a wish for the newlyweds’ future.
Meanwhile, Chicago’s own John Vincent provided the soundtrack for cocktail hour. Guests enjoyed a lush raw bar and plenty of time to take in the views, explore the space, and settle into the evening.
It was an introduction that felt romantic and elegant without being overly formal. And as the sun began to set, the real transformation was just getting started.
Warm Autumn Colors and Vintage-Inspired Details
Inside the reception tent, we wanted to create something warm, cozy, and inviting. The design took inspiration from the feeling of an Italian villa, with layered textures, natural elements, and a color palette that bridged the gap between late summer and early fall.
A massive painted backdrop featured watercolor-style trees in shades of pink, gold, and green, creating a stunning focal point for the reception. The centerpieces echoed the look of olive trees, surrounded by an abundance of lush florals in shades of pink, orange, peach, yellow, and cream.
Subtle vintage touches appeared throughout the rentals, adding character and a collected feel to the overall design. Rather than leaning too heavily into a single theme, we wanted the space to feel like an inviting Italian estate that had come to life right above the Chicago skyline.
And then there was the cake.
A massive sculptural cake inspired by classic Italian architecture served as another show-stopping design moment. With so many beautiful details throughout the reception, it felt right to give dessert a little architectural moment of its own.
A Taste of Italy, with a Chicago Connection
Of course, no Italian-inspired celebration would be complete without an incredible meal.
Limelight Catering delivered a memorable dining experience, including a particularly meaningful course: Pasta Mandera.
The dish was inspired by a favorite served at La Scarola, a beloved Chicago Italian restaurant with a special connection to Michael’s family. Incorporating a family favorite into the wedding menu was such a thoughtful way to bring a little more of their story to the table.
It’s always the personal details that make a wedding feel like the couple. Whether it’s a vintage family car, a favorite restaurant dish, or a small design detail with a story behind it, these are the moments that guests remember long after the last dance.
A Dance Floor That Didn’t Slow Down
Once dinner wrapped, the celebration shifted into full party mode.
The band brought incredible energy to the room, even making their way onto the dance floor with large drums to keep the crowd moving. It was the kind of performance that made it nearly impossible for guests to stay seated.
And just when everyone thought the evening couldn’t get any better, Michael and Brooke had one more surprise up their sleeves.
Near the end of the night, the newlyweds hosted their very own custom tequila cart, complete with top-shelf pours and, because why not, jello shots. It was a perfectly fitting way to keep the celebration going and send everyone into the final stretch of the evening with a little extra energy.
A Living Work of Art: The Video Mapping Experience
If there was one element that truly stole the show, it was the video mapping installation covering the massive south wall of the Harris Theater.
From the moment guests arrived for cocktail hour, the wall began telling its own story. At first, the imagery was subtle. But as the sun set and the evening progressed, the visuals slowly became more vivid, transforming the architecture into an ever-evolving work of art.
The foundation was an old Italian villa, with vines gradually creeping up its walls and becoming fuller and more lush as the night went on. Flowers began to bloom, lanterns flickered, and the entire scene seemed to come alive.
The most special moment came toward the end of the evening, when an image of Michael and Brooke appeared on one of the villa’s balconies, waving goodbye to their guests.
It was an incredible final detail, bringing the entire Italian villa concept full circle while giving guests one last moment to remember. More than just a lighting feature or a projection, it was a piece of storytelling that evolved alongside the celebration.
An Unforgettable Chicago Wedding
Michael and Brooke’s wedding was a perfect example of what we love most about event design: taking inspiration from somewhere else and making it feel completely at home in Chicago.
From a traditional church ceremony and a vintage family car to an Italian-inspired rooftop reception, meaningful family recipes, and an immersive video mapping experience, every part of the day felt connected.
The design was thoughtful, the food was abundant, the dance floor was packed, and the tequila cart certainly didn’t hurt.
Most importantly, the evening felt like Michael and Brooke — a little romantic, a little unexpected, and full of moments worth celebrating.
And honestly, if you can bring a little bit of the Italian countryside to the middle of Millennium Park, we’d say that’s a pretty good way to get married.
