Classic Black and White Wedding at Peninsula Chicago

There is no better ballroom in the city to use as your design canvas than Peninsula Chicago. When childhood sweethearts, Caroline and Jim, came to me hoping to create a fun party with classic black and white design, the possibilities were endless. We maximized the size of the dance floor knowing it was going to be the center of all the action, and we accented it with black and white tiles and a custom monogrammed band backdrop by Elegant Event Lighting. Expanded into the room were tables that featured different levels of floral and candlelight on clean white linen, and suspended over the dance floor was a group of chandeliers that brought the focus back to that spectacular dance floor. Finishing out the design, each guest got a customized and personalized menu by Steracle Press, and the tabletops were finished with custom monogrammed napkins by BBJ Linen.

The bride’s classic Vera Wang gown gave Caroline a timeless look as she floated down the aisle for their traditional ceremony at the gorgeous First Presbyterian Church on Michigan Avenue, and Emanuele Tuxedo fit all the gents to perfection in their tuxedos.

A popular trend this season, the bride and groom were introduced into their reception and then headed to the dance floor to pour their champagne into a towering display of classic coup glasses that gave a nod back to the Rat Pack era. The invitations also gave a nod to that classic era.

Our Favorite Details…

There were more fun details than I can count, but my favorites all came during cocktail hour. Upon entering the Peninsula Hotel, the Grand Foyer was filled with giant black and white balloons and a monogrammed ice sculpture by Nadeau Ice. Guests found their seats using a large display that featured photos the bride had laboriously collected over the months leading up to the wedding, a pianist playing Sinatra and classics, and a giant oversized customized print that coordinated with the print they had guests sign in lieu of a guest book hung behind our custom bars.
